Detroit files for bankruptcy. I am not about to start arguing with random people on the internet about it, because if you think there’s just one simple reason it got to this point you have no clue. But… I thought I should note it. Because, if nothing else, this is the story that’s going to overshadow my life in one way or another for at least the next year.
I’m ambivalent, and I have been throughout the entire emergency manager process. I’m no economist; I don’t know if there is a better way to get things back on track. But I do know I don’t want the city to fail. I don’t think anyone does, aside from some bitter extremists who think this could prove something about political parties or race or capitalism. Like these things are ever that simple.
